Everybody should play and have a 'UKE'. — George Harrison

A course designates adjacent strings on a stringed instrument which are tuned identically or an octave apart. When two strings form one course, the instrument is called double-coursed. Ukuleles with five strings have one course (usually the 3rd string), with six strings two courses (usually 1st and 3rd string), and with eight strings four courses. Courses are usually played together.
