LEXIS

This evergreen tree is found in tropical West and South Africa and is often used for the construction of high quality furniture and doors, but also for musical instruments. Its brown or tawny wood is elastic but hard. It is considered a good substitute for walnut. The sound of ovangkol in ukuleles is described as bright, loud and powerful, between rosewood and mahogany. Ovangkol is related with bubinga.
