LEXIS

body
sound box

The resonating part of an acoustic oder electro-acoustic ukulele. Electric instruments need no body.

The body (or sound box) amplifies the vibrations caused by the strings. Unlike string instruments whose bodies are built in one piece, the body of an Ukulele has sides. The parts of an Ukulele body which are glued together are top, back and sides. The glue seams can be covered with a binding.

In its standard shape, the arches of the body are called bouts.
