LEXIS

Position means the relative position of the fret hand on the fretboard towards the neck. In notation, the fret where the index finger of the fret hand is resting is indicated with a Roman (I, II, III …) or Arabic ordinal number (1st, 2nd, 3rd …). The movement of the hand to a different position is called shift. When shifting, it is recommended to use a finger as a guide finger, which stays on the same string and thus stabilizes the movement.
