Music refers to the juxtaposition of sounds in pieces of music. A piece of music has at least texture, rhythm and timbre, but in most cases also melody and harmony. Its perception is dependent on physical as well as psychoacoustic conditions. For millennia, music has been highly valued in all cultures,

for it stands so high that no reasoning can grasp it, and it assumes an effect that rules everything … It is one of the first means of acting wonderfully on men.1)
