Piezoelectricity is the production of electronic charges through mechanical deformation of crystals (mostly quartz). The deformations result from letting the crystals vibrate. This technique is used in the pickups of electric or electro-acoustic ukuleles and also in clip tuners. The Greek term piezein means „to press“.
