Sattelnut上駒, ナット

The part between neck and head of a ukulele. It is slightly elevated compared with the fretboard. The strings run over it before they are inserted into the pegs. To avoid slipping of the strings, the nut contains notches according to the number of strings. Nuts are commonly built of bone or plastic (e.g., TUSQ).

The English term nut is not related to the fruit but to German Nut („notch“). The nut is called Sattel („saddle“) in German, whereas the saddle is called Stegeinlage („bridge inlay“).
