A musical ornament or embellishment is a sound that does not change the melody or the harmony of a piece of music, but is merely used to embellish a main tone (to make the piece more interesting). The most important types of ornaments are tremolo, trill, vibrato and grace note. Ornaments are an essential device of creating musical expression.

Trill

Executed as hammer-on, pull-off or single-note picking with the fret hand.

Vibrato

Executed as hammer-on oder pull-off with the fret hand.

Grace note

Executed as hammer-on, pull-off or slide with the fret hand.
