In musical history a musical style that originated in the USA at the beginning of the 20^th century. It has African and Afro-American roots, which is reflected in differences to conventional Western music in rhythm, melody, harmony, formal language and performance practice. Typical elements are among others call and response songs, Blue Notes and the Jazz progression. For playing jazz music, chord-melody was developed.

In addition to the actual guitar, jazz music uses the larger Hawaii guitar – with a raised nut and crossbar and a metal bar placed over the fretboard to shorten the strings – as well as the small four-stringed ukulele.¹⁾))
