Very popular comedian who appeared on Japanese radio and television since 1957 and always accompanied his humorous songs with the ukulele (occasionally guitar). In 1960, he even received NHK's own weekly broadcast for ukulele on State Radio. Severely ill since 2002, he took his own life in 2013.

Maki created the genre of the ukulele mandan ウクレレ漫談 („ukulele chatting“). His trademark was the ukulele Yannatchatta song やんなっちゃった節 whose refrain „yannatchatta“ means something like „enough is enough“. Like Oua Oua of Kanui & Lula, it is a parody of the Hawaiian Taua'i ta huahua'i. The varying texts contained satirical comments on the political and social situation in Japan and enjoyed great popularity. — For tuning his ukulele, Maki is said to have shaped the mnemonic Hanako-san, which has since become popular in Japan.
