top
The upper part of the body of a ukulele with the bridge, the end of the fretboard and (most often) the sound hole. The top can be solid or laminated. It is glued together with the sides. The seam of the top is frequently decorated with binding.
The characteristics of the soundboard are largely responsible for the sound of a ukulele because its vibrations produce most of the resonance of the instrument. Therefore, it is often discussed which tonewood is best suited for soundboards.
