The hand that in playing holds the neck of the instrument and grabs the strings. For right handers, this is usually the left hand, in the case of left-handedness possibly the right hand.

If in score the fingering is indicated, the fingers of the fret hand are represented with their Arabic or Latin fingering numerals.
