LEXIS

Mangifera indica

Mango is a tree that originates from India and is today cultivated in many tropical areas. Slow growing mango wood becomes as hard as mahogany. Mango is considered to be an excellent tonewood especially for electric or electro-acoustic Ukuleles. Visually, in particular, spalted mango is very attractive; the spots come from desired fungal attack; the fungus is dried out during processing. Its sound is considered more lovely than spruce or cedar, but not as resonant as koa.

Appraisal

In the lightest attack, the tone is there instantly, presenting itself very precisely, cleanly and airily. Spalted mango convinces with bright, crisp highs, overshadowed by the finest overtones. Middle and basses support the dazzling appearance reliably and unobtrusively.
